Oak House
Oak House has been all about embracing its Federation charm while bringing in some thoughtful, modern touches to make it perfect for family life. We kept the things that made us fall in love with it—the ornate ceilings, original brickwork, and that gorgeous old oak tree in the backyard—while adding an extension that feels like it’s always been part of the home. The oak floorboards were a natural choice, tying everything together and adding a lovely warmth throughout.
We built into the roofline to create cosy attic-style spaces with two dormer windows, adding a bit of character and extra room to grow. My favourite spot has to be the ensuite—there’s nothing quite like showering under the raked ceiling with the afternoon sun streaming through the window. The laundry, just off the kitchen, is another highlight. With wrap-around windows that flood the room with light, it’s such a bright, happy space—and it doubles as our back entry, making life just that bit easier.
This renovation has been about finding the right balance—honouring the history of the home while creating a space that feels comfortable, fresh, and ready for the next chapter.
